Wednesday, August 10th, 2011 - The SMSF Academy
In the wake of its most successful webinar to date, The SMSF Academy has launched a podcast and eBook entitled Top 10 SMSF Strategies for 2011/12.

The SMSF Academy’s managing director, Aaron Dunn, who hosted the webinar last month and authored the book, said so many questions were posed by the webinar’s 400 plus participants, The SMSF Academy had to produce the follow-up podcast in order to answer them all.

“We believe the keen interest from trustees and their professionals is a reflection of the fact that last financial year left such an indelible mark on the self-managed super fund industry,” Mr Dunn said, “much of it due to the key recommendations of the Cooper Review and the subsequent Stronger Super Reforms.”

Mr Dunn said The SMSF Academy expects interest in strategies designed to enhance the performance of SMSFs to only increase this financial year.

“In 2011/12, we will see the beginnings of a new framework in which trustees and SMSF service providers will begin to operate, as the government looks to implement both the FOFA and Stronger Super reforms,” he said. “Trustees and their advisers are on the lookout for strategies that will help them to deal with the changes and deliver great results for their SMSFs.”

Despite jittery markets, Mr Dunn said he expects last year’s strategies, which focused on the themes of borrowing and the global recovery, to continue.

“Borrowing inside super has certainly taken off - but most of us are still waiting for the markets to recover,” he said. “An emerging theme, as members start to think about intergenerational issues and longevity risk for their funds, is SMSF investment succession.”

Other strategies outlined in the podcast and eBook include strategies around contributions, strategies around reserves, including anti-detriment, strategies around pensions, and many more. “These are the strategies trustees and their advisers really want to know about,” Mr Dunn said.

The eBook is currently available free-of-charge by simply signing up to The SMSF Academy’s news & events. For more information, visit The SMSF Academy website.

The SMSF Academy’s next webinar, scheduled for 18 August 2011, will deal with one strategy in depth: Using an anti-detriment strategy effectively within a SMSF. Registration to this session is free from members or $77 (inc. GST) for non-members. SPAA CPD points will be issued to all registrants of this web event. To register, visit The SMSF Academy website.
