Cubic Defence Australia, the Australian defense subsidiary of Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB), has won a contract with the Australian Army to provide collective training services, and a technical integration contract to support Australian and U.S. instrumentation during Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011.

"The Australian Army Collective Training Services Standing Offer is a contract for providing a variety of collective training services in support of the Australian Army Headquarters Forces Command and the Headquarters 1st Division," said Mark Horn, General Manager with Cubic Defence Australia.

Forces Command, headquartered in Sydney, is responsible for raising, training and sustaining the Army's foundation warfighting capability through a variety of individual and collective training, which is training soldiers in groups in order to improve their performance as a group.

Based in Brisbane, Headquarters 1st Division is responsible for Australian Army force preparation training, which prepares soldiers and units for deployments.

Under the contract, a range of services including Exercise Planning, Observer/Trainer Support, Operational Analysis, and a variety of live simulation activities such as replication of physical terrain will be provided. The contract also involves advanced medical training and cultural awareness training.

"In delivering these services, Cubic is leading a team of specialist companies," Horn said. "There is a total of more than 180 contract staff on the team providing support for the Army. It is a three-year contract to provide services all over Australia."

Cubic Defence Australia will work closely with other Cubic subsidiaries including Cubic's Mission Support Services business segment on the contract. "Cubic has excellent global collective training capabilities that can enhance the training provided within Australia," Horn said.

Under the second contract, Cubic will provide support for indoor and outdoor combat instrumentation training during Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011 at Australia's Urban Operations Training Facility (UOTF), located at the Shoalwater Bay Training Area. This contract is part of the Joint Combined Training Capability (JCTC) initiative, designed to help Australian and U.S. forces to participate seamlessly in live, virtual and constructive (LVC) training during major exercises.
