Nurses play a very important role in the health care field. In fact, nurses make up the largest group of people in the medical field. The demand for skilled nurses has increased drastically over the last couple of years and it continues to grow. Many students are choosing to study nursing because it is a promising career. The job market is constantly changing and decreasing the need for certain jobs. However, nurses will always be needed because as long as people are sick, they will need somebody to take care of them.

There are three different paths that people can take to become a nurse. Some students elect to get a diploma in nursing, which takes about a year to complete. After successfully completing the program, students will be eligible to take the board exam to become a licensed practical nurse. Some of the job duties of a licensed practical nurse include: taking pulse, using stethoscopes to take blood pressure, taking temperature and providing basic care to patients. They may also use forceps to change dressings.

Some students choose to get an associates degree in nursing, which takes about two to three years to complete. After successfully completing the program, students will be eligible to take the board exam to become a registered nurse. Registered nurses perform some of the same duties as licensed practical nurses, but they do have more responsibility and may also be involved in supervision.

Many students choose to further their education by getting a bachelor's degree in nursing, which takes about 4-5 years to complete. Some of the students who choose to get bachelor's degrees in nursing are registered nurses who want to complete their education. Others are people who are just starting a career in nursing.

Those who choose a career in nursing are sure to have a very rewarding career that pays off professionally and personally.
